2023-2024 U11 Osgoode Richmond Romans - Coaches Letter

Welcome to the 2023/2024 U10 Osgoode Richmond Romans Hockey Team.  My name is Stephen Wilson and I will be the head coach for the season

Coaching Philosophy

My philosophy is that these kids are only 10 years old and are still developing their skill and love of the game.  My goal is to focus mainly on skill development while spending some time on positions and game play. This will be there first year playing full ice so development of skills and skating on the big ice are very important now and for the future.  My aim is to find a balance between fun and serious.  This being competitive hockey we will aim to push the kids a little harder than if they were still in house hockey but not at the expense of them not wanting to come to the rink each day.  I expect myself, coaching staff, players and parents to all treat each other with respect.  If you have any issues with anyone or anything during the season feel free to talk to me.

The goal of all the above is to foster a fun environment for players and parents no matter if we win or lose.  Winning is always fun but shouldn’t be the main metric to a successful season.

Tournaments

We are signed up for 2 away and 2 home tournaments for the season.

  1. Oct 27-29 – Capital Volunteer Cup – Kanata,On
  2. Nov 10-12 – Pembroke Silverstick - Pembroke,On
  3. Jan 19-21 Capital Winter Classic - Kanata, ON
  4. Feb 2-4 – Kingston Tournament – Kingston, On
Team Fees

The Registration fees for this year will be approx $1300 payable to the Roman's organization.  To support team activities such as tournaments, player development and any other costs, there will be an additional team fee of approximately $$800-$1000 per player.  Final team fees will be subject to the final team approval of the budget.  Sponsorship and fundraising activities will help offset these fees.  If you have any ideas for sponsorship or fundraising please let me know.

Games/Practices

  1. League Games – League play will consist of 20 regular season games followed by a round robin style playoff.
  2. Tournaments – We are signed up for 4 tournaments.  2 away and 2 home
  3. Exhibition – We will aim to play a few exhibition games during the season
  4. Practices – Expect there to be an average of 2-3 practices a week depending on how much ice we get allotted
Communication

We will use TeamSnap for main information.  It is a great tool to have roster and contact information.  It also allows us to include the season schedule and you can add your availability for each session so we know who will be at each game/practice.

During the season if you have any questions for me please don’t hesitate to contact me.  I just ask that you consider the 24 hour rule.   My goal is to be open and communicative to parents and players and do my best to make this a fun season for everyone.

Team Track Jackets

Each player will be asked to purchase a Romans track jacket (can be found on Pro2Col, $80). Track Jackets are to be worn by players to each game. The track pants or any other romans gear, which are sold separately, are optional.

Commitment

As this is a competitive team, it is expected that this be your child’s primary commitment during the season.  Expect to be on the ice 4-5 times a week during the season.

Ice Locations

Per last year they seemed to use Manotick, Osgoode, Richmond, Beckwith, Kemptville and Winchester.

Thanks

Stephen Wilson
