An affiliated player can play only 5 games up on a higher category team after January 10th. (ie. name appearing on a game sheet). If he plays a 6th game he can no longer play for his lower category team. (ie. 5 games total for those in the club system - not 5 games per higher team if a player is playing up on more than 1 team). The 5 games applies to League &/or Playoff games. Exhibition &/or tournament games which are not part of regular league or playoff games are excluded from that number of games.
It is slightly different for an Alternate Goaltender. Actual participation in the game must be noted on the game sheets for alternate goaltenders. On the game sheet, top part of team section is for listing 2 goalies and beside each is TIME. This is often covered by a team list sticker but should be used if the team is using an affiliated goalie. When a goalie enters a game the time is noted and that shows that he participated in the game. Maybe enter n/a if he did not play. So a game where he did not play would not be counted in the 5 games.
In the "Off-ice Officials Guidebook" that ODHA put out it says on page 3 - last point under 'Responsibilities of the Official Scorer' (If the goalie is changed, record the time of that change on the game sheet.) Teams should be reminded to ensure their game sheets are completed correctly.
As always, the player's Coach must be asked permission for the player to play with at the higher team each and every time.
